After the dust from the Y2K Disaster (at least that is what everyone thought Y2K would be), the Director and Staff at the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency started a project to place our presence on the World Wide Web.
On February 18, 2000, our domain name FCEMA.ORG was registered with Network Solutions to make our presence possible. In early March, our first web site using our own domain name was placed on the servers of Laurel Computer Systems, Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Due to growth, expansion, and needing more e-mail system capability (and more speed for our local internet connection for the office), a decision was made in December 2000 to move and redesign our web system and internet access. At that time, our website and e-mail hosting were moved to Interland for hosting. After a successful year with Interland for our Web Site hosting, our needs were re-evaluated and a decision was made to move our web site again. In January 2002 the web site was re-homed to Hosting4Less. A prime factor in our decision to move was lower cost for more service. More bang for the buck so to speak.
In December 2005, the web site was again re-homed, this time to 1and1. Again, our prime factor in our decision to move was lower cost for more service. Still more bang for the buck.
After over 2 years of service, 1and1 notified customers in January 2008 that they were no longer supporting Microsoft Frontpage Extensions on their hosted sites that were Linux based. Since our site uses a lot of Frontpage Extensions features, it was decided to again re-home the web site. In March of 2008 our site was re-homed to Apollo Hosting. Costs are about the same for the same level of service, however Apollo Hosting supports Frontpage Extensions on Linux based hostings.
Currently our web site is designed using Microsoft Front Page and is optimized for computers set to display 800x600 screen resolution. Although we realize a few users may not be able to experience our entire site properly with 800x600 screen resolution, our site worked best when designed for 800x600.
